Dear BE Soccer Boosters;

The 2019 Red Raider Soccer Season is upon us.  Attached is our updated schedule.

This year’s season will have some additional challenges that I feel I need to communicate to you.

Practice Location Change:  This year our home field, Leon Maxwell Stadium, will be out of commission from 2/11/19 to 3/21/19 due to the renovation of the schools track.  All practices will be held at the Ness Complex until the track is completed.  All games will be “away” at the opponents school until 3/21.

Game Attire:  This year also marks the South Carolina statewide rule change that all soccer teams are to now wear “White” as the visiting or away uniform.  Home uniforms will now be the school colored uniforms (for us we will wear Black/Garnet at home).

Alumni Game:  Our annual ”Alumni Reunion Game” continues to grow and has been a highlight for both current and former players for many years.  Last year we set a record of 34 alumni returning (going back to class of 2003) to play and share the love of the “beautiful game” with our current players.  This year we will have to postpone the game until after we return to our home stadium.  We will announce a date for the 2019 alumni game in the near future.

Charleston Battery Night: Last year we were unable to attend our traditional team event to the Charleston Battery soccer game.  We are trying to select a date in the near future that we could attend during the first part of this season.  We will announce this soon.

New Uniforms:  We are in the process of ordering new varsity uniforms.  Once this is completed, we will be placing a second order for individuals players to purchase replica jerseys for them to keep and use in the games.  More information to come.

Sportsmanship:  The South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) is our governing body for high school sports in our state.  They are cracking down on the high number of RED cards and unsportsmanlike actions by players, coaches, and spectators at all soccer games.  Profanity, negative comments, tantrums, throwing of objects and threatening of referees, were all reported as being on the rise at many other school’s soccer games last season.  Our school has prided itself on having a very high quality of support from its fans.  Please continue to show positive support for our team and refrain from making any negative comments to the opposition or to the referees.  As a reminder, only the head coach and the team captain may approach or speak to a referee.

Sportsmanship starts by setting a good positive example and as coaches and parents, it starts with us.

In 2019, the Red Raider Soccer Team is expecting to have continued excellence on the field and in the classroom. Thank you very much for your past and future support for our team.  We aim to continue to make you proud of our school and our program.

Please feel free to contact me at any time.
